Accounting Manager (Operations)

Job Summary

We are looking for a knowledgeable Accounting Manager (Operations) who can lead and motivate accounting staff members and increase department accuracy and efficiency across multiple client accounts. The Accounting Manager (Operations) will delegate, supervise, and participate in accounting department tasks, oversee the recording, tracking, and reporting of financial information, hire, train, and motivate accounting staff members, develop and implement department controls and procedures, and ensure that the department operates efficiently without sacrificing accuracy.

To succeed as an Accounting Manager (Operations), you should be analytical, detail-oriented, and honest. The ideal Accounting Manager should possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills as well as a strong understanding of accounting and management principles and financial legislation.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manages the accounting staff who are responsible for financial reporting, inventory, billing, collections, payroll, and budget preparation.

  • Recruits and hires accounting and financial staff and conducts performance evaluations.

  • Coordinates training programs for new staff and identifies training needs for current staff.

  • Establishes internal controls and guidelines for client accounting transactions and budget preparation.

  • Oversees preparation and conduct reviews of client business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.

  • Oversees the production of client periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) or international financial reporting standards (IFRS).  

  • Responsible for client tax planning and advisory throughout the fiscal year

  • Internally audits accounts to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the annual external audit.

  • Presents recommendations to client management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.

  • Provides financial analysis with an emphasis e.g. capital investments, pricing decisions, contract negotiations etc.

  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.

  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned. 

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required (essential).

  • 6+ years of proven working experience as Accounting Manager, Accounting Supervisor or Finance Manager (essential).

  • ACCA or ACA qualified (advantageous).

  • Working knowledge of tax laws, GAAP & IFRS

  • Good practical experience with accounting software packages such as QuickBooks, Wave, SAGE, ZohoBooks etc.

  • Knowledgeable on tax administration processes and platforms e.g. TaxProMax, e-LIRS etc.

  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong understanding of accounting, finance, and management principles.

  • Must have a working laptop and conducive environment for remote working

Proposed Compensation: 

  • ₦300,000 per month (net, after probation)

Terms & Conditions:

  • This is a full-time, remote role.

  • Full-time employees are subject to a probationary period of up to 6 weeks and contract may be terminated within this time if performance is deemed unsatisfactory.

  • Paid annual leave benefits for full-time employees are no more than:

    • 20 days paid annual leave,

    • 5 days paid sick leave

    • 3 days bereavement leave.

NB. Paid maternity leave will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
